Victim Advocate (Finance)

Hiring Salary/Salary Range: $21 - $25 per hour
Organizational Summary:
The Center for Victim Advocacy & Violence Prevention is a department of Student Affairs that provides confidential and comprehensive victim services to USF students, faculty and staff who have experienced crime, violence or abuse either on or off campus. In addition, the Center provides educational presentations throughout the University and the community on issues related to victimization, safety, and prevention.
Position Summary:
This position provides the opportunity to serve a diverse population of USF students, faculty and staff who have experienced crime, violence or abuse. This position largely entails providing crisis intervention, navigating reporting processes (e . g., law enforcement, Title IX, Student Conduct), and offering emotional support to survivors through an empowerment-based model. There is a rotating on-call component to this position, which may include responding to victims in immediate need of assistance and providing accompaniment both on campus and at local hospitals on nights and weekends as needed . Victim Advocates also provide accompaniment to court hearings and medical exams; therefore, this role requires access to reliable transportation. Additionally, Victim Advocacy collaborates with USF's Violence Prevention team, which forms opportunities to facilitate educational presentations and provide consultations as needed on issues related to crime, violence, abuse, and safety . The victim advocate makes a significant impact on the USF community by creating a safe space for survivors to begin their healing journey. A successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to providing equitable, inclusive, and welcoming services for students and staff of all identities.
DUTIES:
Provide crisis intervention, emotional support, and psychoeducation related to victimization. Conduct risk/lethality assessments and safety planning, identify needs, and provide appropriate referrals and information to assist survivors in their healing journey. Provide follow-up services as needed.
Assist survivors in navigating reporting processes within the University and local law enforcement jurisdictions. Assist victims in filing for Injunctions for Protection . Provide accompaniment to hearings, court, investigative interviews, forensic exams, related medical appointments, etc. Assist USF Police in performing death notifications.
Share the responsibility for providing 24-hour, 7-day a week on-call crisis intervention and accompaniment to victims of crime and violence within the USF community. Shares the responsibility for office coverage .
Integrate an understanding of issues related to diversity, inclusion, equity, and bias into the service provided to our diverse student and employee population. Researches information relevant to victim issues, stay abreast of current research in relevant fields, develops or updates materials as needed to maintain relevancy and current best practices and standards.
Provides educational presentations on issues related to victimization and creating a trauma-informed community. Presentations may be given to student groups, professional staff, orientation, in classes, or in the Tampa Bay community. Will represent the program as needed to other community and campus organizations, committees, and task forces. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or Master's degree level in Education, Special Education, Psychology, Social Work, or other field appropriate to the program content. Bachelor's degree candidates must have at least two years of applicable experience. The Master's degree may substitute for the required experience. Specific certifications or licensures may be required or preferred for certain program areas.
FLSB1310 Equivalency:
4 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree.
6 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for master's degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree in criminology, counseling, social work, women's studies, or other related fields. Six months to 3 years experience in victim services. Designation by the State of Florida as a Victim Services Practitioner.
