Associate Athletic Trainer/Physical Therapist, Football (Healthcare)

The Associate Athletic Trainer/Physical Therapist - Football, under the medical- legal supervision of the head team physician, the head athletic trainer, and director of rehabilitation with direct primary responsibility to Football, is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation of injury and illness within the University's comprehensive athletic medicine program, with primary responsibility to Football; empowered with the authority to determine management and return to play of any ill or injured athlete, or modify any workout for health and safety reasons, as he or she deems appropriate. A focus on collaborating with other stakeholders to ensure positive culture and student-athlete performance and well-being.

Essential Functions: 

• Serve alongside a team of medical providers with a dedicated responsibility to football athletes, ensuring appropriate prevention, recognition, diagnosis, referral, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic related injury and illness.
  
• Work with a consistent network of physicians, the head athletic trainer, and other allied health care professionals to deliver and support optimal healthcare to football athletes
  
• Establish effective and consistent communication strategies with those parties identified as necessary to ensure clear communication and expectations relating to athlete healthcare.
  
• Collaborate within a multi-discipline performance team, to identify practices that are scientific based and considered foundational best practices based upon applicable data.
  
• Collaborate with the Head Team Physician and Director of Rehabilitation to establish criteria, design, and implement a plan for return throughout the return-to-play process
  
• Aid in establishing and operating a treatment and rehabilitation facility to ensure healthcare remains consistent, foundational, and based from scientific best practices and principles
  
• Collaborate with the Head Team Physician, Head Athletic Trainer, and Director of Rehabilitation to establish systems for critical review of the literature supporting current trends of injury, rehab, and recovery within football.
  
• Maintain accurate medical and rehabilitation records for football athletes
  
• Supervise certified athletic trainer(s) directly assigned to football.
  
• Recruit, educate, and supervise undergraduate students assigned to football.
  
• Other duties as assigned by the Athletics Health Care Administrator/Head Athletic Trainer, and/or Director of Rehabilitation

Distribution of Duties:

• Injury Prevention - athlete focused and program focused with coaches
  
• Injury/Illness Evaluation - assess acute conditions and determine plan 
  
• Injury/Illness Management - implement care & treatment plan 
  
• Rehabilitation - operative & non-operative rehabilitation 
  
• Documentation - maintain athlete personal medical record 
  
• Administration - as warranted tasks with professional medical staff, coaches, compliance, etc
  
• Athlete workout - present for organized/supervised practices and strength & conditioning 
  
• Sport Competition - attend all home and away competitions 
  

Required Education: Master's Degree AND;

• 3 years of related experience

Skills

• Knowledge of athletic training techniques and their appropriate application. 
• Skill set of manual and therapeutic modalities and evaluation of injury. 
• Experience and abilities with a range of injury and illness. 
• Proven record of implementing athlete treatment plans, safely and effectively.

Certifications

• Certified Athletic Trainer by the Board of Certification (BOC) or Licensed Physical Therapist
• Licensed per the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision
• Current CPR/AED certification

Departmental Preferences:

• 5 years of experience working with athletes; experience in a collegiate setting
• Familiarity and compliance with NCAA Bylaws, HIPAA, and FERPA
• Knowledge of institutional, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations

Advertised Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to climb, crouch, pull, push, reach, stand, engage in repetitive motions, communicate, hear and see including color, depth perception and clarity.
• Ability to engage in repetitive motions and communicate effectively
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions including in the heat and cold
