The CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) Engineer for the Global Engineering group will perform CFD analysis and take part in helping to develop new technology across a variety of product lines.
The CFD analyses are performed in cooperation with various other Engineering departments and may include customer meetings (virtual and in person), plant visits, data collection, as well as presentations (virtual and remote).
You will be challenged on both your practical and theoretical competencies when developing and designing innovative solutions. Your daily work will be characterized by many different tasks, all of which are necessary to ensure the development and design of our plant systems, using CFD tools to find the solutions. We have been primarily using FLUENT for calculation and analysis in connection with problem solving and the functional design of plants. You will handle both standalone modeling projects and also as part of combined combustion modeling projects. The time span of a typical project can be as short as 2 - 3 weeks, and as long as 8 weeks.
The CFD Engineer would benefit from process engineering and combustion experience with solid and gaseous fuels fired in industrial and utility scale boilers or in similar industrial combustion processes, and/or environmental processes and equipment.
Interpret geometry of flues, ducts, large vessels, etc. from primarily AutoCad or Solidworks models and build appropriate meshed models using tools such as Ansys SpaceClaim and Ansys Mesher.
Create models to hand off to Akron based team, or run locally with Ansys Fluent and hand back results.
Results for reporting will include visualization of key parameters such as velocity, flow direction and magnitude among other key parameters - this post processing will utilize tools such as Fieldview v20 and Tecplot 360 v2018.
Must be able to interpret results and with consultation of the design team, decide if additional model runs are required (modifications could include revised geometry or additional internal modifications such as turning vanes, baffle plates, perforated plates, etc.)
Prepare reports on the results of the analysis for both internal and external customers.
Review procedures to ensure compliance with applicable policies and performance measures. Author and modify new and existing company design standards utilized for the CFD efforts.
Routinely interact with external customers, A/Es, vendors, and/or sublet engineers and sublet manufacturers.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
