IIT Network Administration Intern - Summer 2025 (Information Technology)



OVERVIEW:

The Children's Museum of Indianapolis seeks an IIT Network Administration Intern to join our IIT team. In this role, you will gain hands-on experience by assisting with the configuration and installation of network switches, maintaining our network infrastructure, and supporting general IT helpdesk functions. This internship offers a real-world opportunity to build your technical skills in enterprise networking and IT infrastructure while working alongside experienced professionals in a dynamic environment.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the configuration and installation of network switches (Cisco/Aruba).
  • Help with network troubleshooting and maintenance to ensure smooth connectivity.
  • Support IT staff in deploying and managing network equipment.
  • Assist with helpdesk support, including troubleshooting hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
  • Document network configurations, troubleshooting steps, and standard operating procedures.
  • Collaborate with IT staff on projects related to network security, VLANs, and Wi-Fi management.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Networking, IT, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of Cisco, Aruba, or general networking concepts, and an understanding of networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DHCP, VLANs, etc.).
  • Familiarity with networking troubleshooting tools and commands (e.g., ping, traceroute, SSH, Telnet).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Preferred skills include: hands-on experience with network switches or routers (via coursework, labs, or previous work experience), experience with Active Directory and Windows, and an understanding of network security principles.
