Job Summary IEEE authors are essential to our information products, as they generate the content that forms our valuable intellectual property. It is important that our authors feel appreciated, engaged, and supported. This position's primary responsibility is cultivating positive and proactive relationships with authors by developing and implementing tools, processes, and procedures that enhance the publication process for authors and editorial volunteers. This effort aims to ensure competitiveness in author engagement. Therefore, the incumbent must support IEEE Publishing Operations' efforts to develop procedures, programs, and educational vehicles intended to sustain and continually grow our relationships with our authors and editorial volunteers by delivering new, and continuously updating existing, author communication vehicles and tools in support of the periodicals publication process and business and organizational objectives. In addition, he/she will help educate authors and editorial volunteers about the appropriate use of IEEE IP according to policy, copyright agreements, and license agreements, as well as the issues related to plagiarism and other forms of misconduct.
Key Responsibilities
Develops and facilitates programs and procedures that will improve author support by enhancing author services.
Develops and distributes practical resources to educate and support authors in understanding the importance of publication ethics.
Develops and facilitates educational offerings for Editors-in-Chief, peer review administrators, and others involved in the editorial process (S1M, IEEE policy updates, and industry-related guidance) for delivery in real-time to a live online audience; supports the value of publishing with IEEE.
Coordinates marketing of live training; Manages registrations and reminders to attendees; keeps track of engagement metrics; holds one-on-one training sessions.
Ensures that all author and editor-facing content presented online is always up to date and no more than 12 months old.
Contributes to the writing of both Author and EIC monthly newsletters.
Develops stories to share with Society/Council newsletter editors to propagate the use of products and services that enhance the publishing experience for IEEE authors (Society outreach for ongoing, transparent communication between Publications and TA).
Resolves queries sent to authors@ieee.org (catch-all alias where IEEE authors can find resolution to questions with IEEE's publishing processes; ensures IEEE authors' content is properly represented in all IEEE's products).
Participates in the research and maintenance of the competitive analysis of IEEE against other STM publishing competitors across author tools options.
Facilitates and champions IEEE's efforts to combat misconduct in publications by providing research and analysis of publications data as needed.
Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Journalism, English, Communications, related field, or equivalent experience Req
Work Experience
4-7 years directly related experience in an STM publishing/production environment with direct author contact are required Req
Skills and Requirements
Very strong verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
Ability to create and deliver presentations to internal and external audiences.
Knowledge of STM publishing and the platforms, processes, and tools.
General knowledge of online peer review systems and scholarly collaboration networks.
Experience working through a CMS to update content published online.
Ability and flexibility to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
A technology-savvy knowledge worker who stays on top of technology trends.
Excellent management and organizational skills to meet deadlines and maintain a proactive approach to continuous improvement in all job performance areas.
Ability to juggle multiple priorities and remain deadline-focused.
Ability to travel 1-3 times a per year.
